Compression Wear Manufacturing Process (Step by Step)

Compression wear isn't cut-and-sew like a normal tee — the compression comes from engineered fabric and construction. Here's the real process, step by step.

1. Fabric engineering

Compression fabric is knitted with higher spandex content (15–25%) and tighter gauge to create graduated tension. The spec includes composition, weight (GSM), stretch % and recovery rate — this creates the 'hug'.

2. Pattern & grading

Compression patterns are cut SMALLER than body measurements to create tension. Grading across sizes must maintain the same compression ratio — a common error is grading like a regular tee, which kills compression in larger sizes.

3. Garmenting

  • Flat-lock or cover-stitch seams to prevent chafing
  • Reflective/logo areas via sublimation (no raised print on compression)
  • Waistbands with silicone grip for staying power

4. Compression QC

  • Stretch-recovery test: measure elongation & recovery per size
  • mmHg check if marketing recovery/medical-grade claims
  • Wash-test compression retention after 10–20 washes
  • Seam tension test on should and waistband stress areas

5. Timeline

Sampling 7–10 days; bulk 4–6 weeks; in-stock restock 7 days. Compression runs benefit from a pre-production sample approved before bulk cutting.
