Yoga Apparel Supplier for D2C Brands: Sourcing Workflow
# Yoga Apparel Supplier for D2C Brands: Sourcing Workflow, Price Breaks & Reorder Planning
Your first factory inquiry probably wasn't about yoga fabric. It was a math problem. You're staring at a landed-cost spreadsheet, trying to figure out whether a $6.80 unit price with a 300-piece MOQ makes sense when your ad CPA is $28 and your return rate is creeping past 4%. Then you factor in the 17-day ocean freight to Long Beach, the $2.40 FBA prep fee, and suddenly your margin is thinner than a 3mm yoga mat.
You have three options. Gamble on a random Alibaba trader who disappears after payment, pay a 500-piece MOQ to a mid-tier factory that locks up your cash for four months, or find a supplier that actually treats reorder forecasting as part of the product. We're Alpinario, a 20+ year factory in Zhejiang, China. We don't do minimums. We do math.

## Sourcing workflow
Most D2C buyers assume the sourcing process starts with a design file. It doesn't. It starts with a landed-cost model that tells us what fabric weight, stitch density, and trim level fits your retail price point. Before you send us a sketch of your seamless leggings, let us break down our workflow so you know what day-counts to expect.
**Step 1: Inquiry & cost targeting (Day 0–1)**
You email us at support@alpinario.com or use the contact form. We reply within 24 hours—not with a generic "thank you for your interest" auto-response, but with a worksheet. We ask three things: your target retail price, your projected first order quantity, and your priority (margin, speed, or sustainability). If you skip the worksheet and just send a photo of a competitor's legging, we'll still quote it. But we can't tell you if the price works for your business model.
**Step 2: Fabric & trims selection (Day 1–3)**
We produce primarily in polyester, with nylon available for higher-end compression. Our standard yoga fabric is 80% nylon / 20% spandex in 230 GSM. That's your mid-range workhorse—good compression, matte finish, no pilling after 20 washes. If you're selling a $32 legging, that fabric costs around $2.10–$2.40 per yard at our volume pricing. If you want a brushed buttery-soft finish, we add a peach-skin brushing process for about $0.30 per yard extra. Pantone color matching is nearly unlimited, but we recommend picking from our 120-stock color library for faster turns.
**Step 3: Sampling (Day 3–10)**
Here's the part that makes D2C founders nervous: sampling. Our standard sample ships in 3–7 days. That's not "we'll start after we source fabric." We have a dedicated sampling floor with the greige goods already in inventory. A basic legging sample costs $25–$40 depending on size range and complexity. We offer 1 free round of revisions on samples that exceed $50 in sample value—this covers fit adjustments or logo placement changes.
Most buyers don't understand why sampling speed matters until they miss a Q4 launch window. A 3-day sample turnaround means you can validate fit, test the fabric on real customers, and still leave room for a second round of adjustments before committing to production.
**Step 4: Order confirmation & production scheduling**
Once you approve the sample, we run a pre-production meeting with our floor managers. We'll issue a production timeline in writing: for a 300-piece order (our benchmark mid-tier size), production takes 4–6 weeks after sample approval. That's our committed lead time, not an optimistic estimate. We've held this schedule for the past five years because we stagger production by fabric color—palest shades get dyed first, dark colors process through the same dye vats after washing.
**Step 5: FBA prep & shipping**
If you're selling on Amazon, we pre-apply FBA barcode labels at the factory. This is a $0.08 per-unit charge and it saves you the pain of paying a third-party prep center $0.50–$1.00 per unit. Your shipment goes directly from our dock to your Amazon warehouse. You don't touch it; we don't ship to a PO box first.

## Price breaks
Let's talk real numbers. We publish a transparent price ladder because hidden tier pricing is how trading companies make their margin. Our pricing is based on the "Big Three" variables: fabric weight, garment complexity, and total quantity. Here's how the break points work.
| Order Quantity | Basic Legging (230 GSM, 4-way stretch) | Sports Bra (padding included) | Long-Sleeve Top (thumb holes) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–99 pieces | $9.80–$12.50 | $6.20–$8.80 | $8.40–$10.90 |
| 100–299 pieces | $8.90–$10.80 | $5.60–$7.40 | $7.60–$9.20 |
| 300–999 pieces | $7.50–$9.20 | $4.80–$6.10 | $6.40–$8.00 |
| 1,000+ pieces | $6.90–$8.40 | $4.20–$5.30 | $5.80–$7.10 |
**Price break rules:**
- The "break" at 300 pieces is your biggest step. You'll typically see a 9–12% drop from the 100–299 tier. That's because at 300 pieces, we can dedicate a production line for 5–7 continuous days without reconfiguring machines for other orders.
- Below 100 pieces, prices include a $0.50–$1.50 "small batch tolerance" fee to cover color-matching waste on fabric dye lots. Dyeing 80 yards vs. 800 yards produces the same chemical overhead but more waste per yard.
- Fabric upgrades (e.g., moving to nylon for 280 GSM compression) add $1.20–$1.80 per unit. This is the most common upgrade we see from D2C brands after they feel the difference between the 230 GSM entry point and the 280 GSM compression version.
We won't pretend 100 pieces gives you the same economics as 1,000. It doesn't. But our 1-piece MOQ means you can test-market without a $10,000 inventory bet.

## Private label at supplier tier
Here's what separates a factory like ours from a trading company: private label at the actual production level. We've written about [wholesale sportswear](https://www.alpinario.com/wholesale-sportswear) in detail, but the core difference is control. We control the knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, and packaging. There's no middleman adding 15–20% markup between you and the needle.
**What's included in our private label program:**
- **Logo application**: Heat transfer ($0.15/unit), embroidery ($0.35–$0.60/unit depending on stitch count), or printed labels ($0.05/unit). We don't charge setup fees for standard logo sizes within 10cm x 10cm.
- **Labeling**: We custom-print wash care labels, neck labels, and hangtags with your brand name. This is included in the sample phase—not a surprise "branding fee" thrown in later. You send us an EPS or AI file; we handle the rest.
- **Packaging**: Polybags with your logo printed start at $0.08/unit. For retail-ready packaging, we source custom hangtags and insert cards at cost + 5%—the same rate we'd give a long-term partner.
**The "supplier tier" distinction:** Some factories only do OEM—you provide the spec, they execute blindly. We do ODM too, which means you can walk in with a Pinterest mood board and walk out with a finalized tech pack. For D2C buyers who haven't hired a designer yet, our in-house design team can draft your capsule collection (core 4-piece yoga set) in 7–10 days. This is separate from sampling; it's a concept-to-tech-pack service. If you're already a designer, you can skip this and go straight to the sampling workflow.

## Reorder planning
Most suppliers treat reorders as an afterthought. You email them, they say "we'll check material availability," and two months later you're out of stock with no ETA. That's not how we run our floor.
**Here's how we handle reorders for our D2C clients:**
- **Inventory buffer**: For clients who maintain at least 300 units per SKU in active rotation, we hold fabric stock after your first order. That means a reorder of the same colorway can ship in 3–4 weeks instead of the full 6-week production cycle. You don't pay for warehousing—we eat that cost as partnering margin.
- **Reorder pricing**: If you reorder within 90 days of your original shipment, you lock in the same tier pricing. If you go up a tier (e.g., from 100–299 to 300–999), the lower price applies immediately. We don't penalize you for ordering more.
- **Forecasting windows**: We suggest D2C brands think in 12-week blocks. Week 1–2: approve reorder sample (if any fabric/trim changes). Week 3–7: production. Week 8–12: transit time to your warehouse or Amazon FBA. That 12-week calendar—reorder placed, inventory replenished—fits nicely into the typical 90-day cash cycle of a running campaign.
One common mistake we see: reordering the wrong mix. Your best-selling legging fabric might be 230 GSM nylon, but your sports bra in the same color is selling 2:1 against the legging. If you reorder in equal ratios, you'll have dead legging inventory. We track your per-SKU order history and flag these imbalances before you commit. It's a free service we give every reorder client, not a upsell.

## FAQ
**What is the MOQ?**
One piece. Literally 1 piece can be customized. Whether you're a startup testing a single sample or a gym owner ordering 50 uniforms for your staff, there's no minimum order requirement at our factory. The low MOQ is why D2C brands don't need to float $5,000 in inventory to start selling. If you're ordering bulk, the 300-piece threshold unlocks the most significant price break—about 9–12% below the 100–299 tier.
**Sampling timeline?**
Standard samples ship in 3–7 days from approved sketch/picture. That's our commitment: you approve the sample design on Monday, you're holding a physical garment by the following Monday. For complex orders (e.g., a 4-piece capsule with custom color matching), sampling may take up to 10 days. Once the sample is approved and you place a 300-piece order, production takes 4–6 weeks. So a full cycle—sample approval to doors or dock—is roughly 5–7 weeks for a first order.

We know sourcing feels risky from a distance. That's why we're transparent about workflows, timelines, and the exact price ladder we use. You don't have to guess whether a quote includes labeling, packaging, or FBA prep—you can see the math in this article.
